Dog Training : How to Crate Train a Puppy

crate training a new puppy
Are there any tricks to crate training a new puppy?

We have a 9 wk lab puppy & she cries all night. We bought a relaxing pheramone spray for her crate, but so far she hasnt relaxed at all.

She will get used to it, she just needs to start seeing it as home. Just remember to always make it positive. Try giving her a treat and plenty of praise everytime you put her in it, and never use it as punishment. Also, keep the amounts of time she spends in there short at first so she doesn’t learn to hate it. Start with 30 minute sessions in the crate and go up from there. Take her out during the night to potty, but just potty. If you make the time out of her crate fun at night, she’ll want to come out all night, so just let her outside, then right back in the crate with lots of praise.
Oh, and ignore her when she cries unless you think she needs to potty, then like I said, it’s right back in the crate. If you comfort her or talk to her when she cries she will learn that it gets her attention and she’ll do it all the time.
She’ll get the hang of it, just give her time.
