Puggle Birthday Party!
So our little puggle Duke is one. The day started out rough with Duke waking Gracie, daddy and I at 5 am to celebrate with him. After a few rounds of “You say it’s your birthday….it’s my birthday too - yea” Duke finally let us go back to bed so we could rest up before his party.
For his party we invited four of his closest friends. Miss Ella Monkey (black minpin-chihuahua), Miss Heidi Piedi (tan minpin-chihuahua), Miss Hogan (black lab) and Mr. Ben (mix) all came over to celebrate. Duke was up all night baking peanut butter cookies for his friends which he put in little cellophane bags and tied with a brown and blue ribbon (the all organic recipe is below). We bought him a bone shaped apple cinnamon birthday cake from a local bakery, Coastal K-9 on Carolina Beach Road, also all organic and a big hit with Duke. We also served Frosty Paws doggie ice cream which was a big hit with all the dogs.
Of course we had some bakery favorites for the adults. The timing of the party was excellent
because Duke’s grandparents were in town from Michigan to celebrate with him. They met little Gracie for the first time and celebrated by buying them matching Kongs (a blue one for Duke and a pink one for Gracie). The Kong dog toys are the greatest dog toys…our dogs have actually had them before but we lost them…very durable rubber toys (pictured at right) and they love them filled with peanut butter and/or little treats inside.
Peanut Butter Dog Cookies

1 tablespoon baking powder
1 cup natural peanut butter
1 cup skim milk
Cooking Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a bowl, combine flour
and baking powder. In another bowl, mix peanut butter and milk. Add wet
mixture to dry, and mix well.
Turn out dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll out to 1/4-inch
thick and cut out shapes. Place on a greased baking sheet and bake 20
minutes or until lightly brown. Cool on a rack then store in an airtight
container. Makes 30 large bones. (keep refrigerated)
