How do I breed fawn puggles and have them come out solid tan/brown, with any tri-color spots like the beagle?
I want it to be a solid color without tri-color spots. Also do I have to breed a pug and beagle, or can i just breed two puggles?
They are a mixed breed- even if you breed a puggle to a puggle you are taking TWO mixed breed dogs (who aren’t purebred to start with,) and playing genetic poker.
Let’s say they both WERE purebred- even if they were purebred you still couldn’t guarantee what colors you were going to get and still have a dog that wasn’t inbred to the point of death. (That’s why AKC standards have “disqualifying” colors- those are colors that aren’t wanted but they cannot just breed them out of the bloodlines.)
You aren’t going to be able to get the specific colors you want because its a mixed-up gene pool- if you are breeding puggle to puggle you might get puppies that look like beagles, or like pugs, or anything in between because both parents are carrying BOTH sets of genes- and it could be ANYTHING that the puppies get!
Even if you breed a pug to a beagle you STILL cannot guarantee what color you are going to get for the same reason- genetics comes into play with dominant and recessive genes and that becomes EXTREMELY complicated even when you have the family bloodlines to look at to help you out. (Which, if its a puggle, you most likely aren’t going to have available to you…so you’re stuck guessing.)
“Designer breeds” are a bad idea to start with however if you do insist on breeding designer dogs (aka mixed breeds,) then you are going to have to do a lot more research before you jump into the Gene Pool- since it only gets MORE complicated from here if you want healthy puppies…and be prepared to pay for the veterinary bills of any sick puppies you breed and adopt out or sell.
