I am pretty freaked out. I took my 8wk chihuahua to get her dhlpp shot today and she was fine. But after getting home and taking a long nap we did nothing but pet her and she started freaking out. She was yelping like crazy and acting like a different puppy. She yelped when we picked her up and everything. All she wants to do is sleep and be to herself which is definitely not like her. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I gave my puppy a dhlpp shot this past thurs. he threw up about an hour to an hour and a half later. the next morning...no little ball of devilish fury at 4:30 am. he was lethargic and did not want to get up. took him to the vet fri & left him there. i picked to up after work. he was given a shot to treat an allergic reaction. he threw up 6 times between 4p-10:30p.
sat...he seems just fine. i fed him a little food. it stayed down. fed him the rest. that too stayed down. sat night, he ate dinner still seems fine. then we were wrestling on the floor & i was basically touching his shoulder & he yelped really loud. he seems like he is bruised, bcuz there are no sores & he is walking/running w/o a limp.
sun...he's a little more sore, whole right shoulder on this 20lb guy seems to be sore. still no limping & walking/running with ease. he ate both meals w/o an issue, appetite is normal. i called the vet, he's getting checked tomorrow(mon).

Our four month old Lhasa Apso puppy Sweetie just went into shock today after having a her third distemper shot, a rabies shot and a shot for "kennel cough." It happened just when we were leaving the vet....she vomited and then her whole body weakened.
She almost died. She is home now, sleeping on our bed. I held her all day while she slept, vomited
two more times...now I can't sleep because I am listening to her breathing.

Her file is now marked "No vaccinations". They are going to test her prior to any future vaccines to be certain she really needs them. I guess they are referring to the rabies shot.

Anyway...this has been a very rough day.

I have a 2 year old male puggle named T.J. He is the such a joy to be around. He also had a reaction to the "hot shot" of DHLPP and almost died. He started vomiting and going into shock. Good thing I was still at the Vet when it happened. The Vet said it was the "Lipto" portion that caused the reaction. Please be careful when getting vaccined.

A week ago, my boyfriend and I got a puggle puppy. This past weekend, she suddenly got very sick. She was fine early in the afternoon - jumping around and being as rambunctious as usual...but by midnight we were at the emergency vet talking about treatment options for Parvovirus. She had already had her first round of vaccinations, but she contracted the virus anyway. Apparently it is rare for this to occur, but it happens. Unfortunately, the outlook was very grim. She only had a 50/50 shot of surviving the painful course of the virus, and would be weak and sick the rest of her life if she survived. We decided that the best thing to do would be to put her down.

We aren't yet ready to get a new puggle puppy, but we want one someday. Even if we were ready now, we couldn't. The virus stays in the home and the yard for 6-9 months, and it would be unsafe for a new puppy. We've decided to wait until next year to be safe.

According to what we've read, this is the most common virus among dogs. Adult dogs can have it and not get very sick, but puppies aren't strong enought to fight the virus off. You can test a puppy's immunity to the virus at the vet. It may not hurt to pay the extra money to do this! If your puppy isn't safe from contracting the virus, be careful about where you take him/her until the vaccines kick in!
